Brenda Christensen

Teaching

Jemima - Age 14    Frankfurt International School
I have been a student of Brenda’s for 2 ½ years now. I always look forward to my lessons each Monday. My lessons with her have not only grown my confidence in singing massively but also my voice. She has taught me how to use special voice techniques to enhance the power and sound of my voice. Brenda has helped my confidence grow as a singer and a performer along with her showing her support on a solo I had in church just showing how much she cares for her students. I love how she completely believes in me and is always telling me how to grow in the nicest way possible to make sure I get pushed right through my comfort zone. Thank you, Brenda, for guiding me and helping me become more confident in myself as a singer! Happy 20 years teaching!

Leah - Age 13    Frankfurt International School
Brenda is a very supportive and enthusiastic teacher. When I’m not feeling my best, she still supports me and helps me stay focused. She pushes me as much as possible while still maintaining a comfortable space. Lessons never get boring, since there’s always different genres to sing, from classical to musical theatre, some songs more challenging than others. Hearing my voice grow is so exciting, and I look forward to continuing to work with Brenda.

Anna - Age 17    European School Frankfurt
I am Anna, I am 17 years old and I have been Brenda's student for five years. Brenda has been my first official singing teacher and I am extremely grateful for her. She helped me find and control my voice, and helped with my pitching. We focus mainly on musical theater and Italian Songs and German Lied, and soon we will start French. She made me discover a part of the music industry and of myself which are now a really big part of my life.

Sofia - Age 16    European School Frankfurt
I started taking lessons with Brenda at the age of 8. She’s taught me healthy singing techniques and guided me through the start of my music career. Brenda helped me with my first solo with an orchestra at Opera Frankfurt. I sing German lieder, musical theatre, French art song, Italian song and English classical songs with her. She has broadened my repertoire in a healthy and beneficial way. Brenda is helping me with my university applications by preparing various pieces of music. I am lucky to have found her.

Garreth    Piano teacher
Brenda is a fantastic teacher. Her focus on healthy singing technique transformed my voice, eliminating the discomfort I had previously felt after singing. She has a talent for explaining complex physical techniques with an accessible vocabulary that anyone can understand. Her physically-orientated approach to making music has unexpectedly had a strong influence on other areas of my life and as a result I’ve become more aware of when I’m moving in an unhealthy way.

Lessons with Brenda have also helped me in my work as a pianist and composer. The voice was the first instrument in human history and when we can use it to express ourselves musically, we become more well-rounded as musicians. This is true even if we’re not actually singing, because we need to be able to hear the music in our heads (the technical term is audiation), and learning to sing really helps us with this. Since studying with Brenda my compositions have become more melodic and my piano playing has become more expressive.

Perhaps most importantly, Brenda has a really big heart. She treats her students as if they were part of an extended family, she thinks deeply about what’s best for them and if you are lucky enough to be accepted as a student, you can trust that she has your best interests at heart. Being her student was a privilege for which I am very grateful.
